October · Part 10 of 12
A deep, heavy knock often points to a rod or main bearing problem—serious internal engine damage that needs immediate attention.
A lighter ticking sound can be a lifter, a timing component, or simply low oil level.
If you hear a new knock, check your oil first. If it's full, stop driving and have it diagnosed before the damage spreads.
Having this problem? Don't start replacing parts until you know what's wrong.
